Lil Wayne è stato riconosciuto "paroliere dell'anno" e il fondatore della Def Jam Russell Simmons è stato celebrato come icona dell'hip hop alla cerimonia di consegna dei Bet Awards, ieri sera ad Atlanta. Momento clou dell'evento, presentato da T-Pain, è stata una esibizione collettiva matriarcale che ha coinvolto, fra le altre, Mc Lyte, Yo-Yo e le Salt-n-Pepa. DJ Khaled, Young Jeezy, Ludacris, Busta Rhymes, Big Boi, Lil Wayne, Fat Joe, Birdman e Rick Ross si sono aggiudicati il premio per la migliore collaborazione hip hop con "I'm So Hood (The Remix)". Fra le performance nella nottata di mfesteggiamenti, sono spiccate anche quelle di Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy e Bow Wow. Il veterano LL Cool J ha consegnato a Simmons il premio alla carriera "I Am Hip-Hop". Lo spettacolo sarà trasmesso in tv negli States il 23 ottobre, data in cui peraltro si conoscerà l'eleco completo dei vincitori delle varei categorie.
